Default Btrieve - engine - not from Pervasive - 02-04-2005 , 06:59 AM

Hi
I'm looking for database engin which is compatible with Btrieve 6 (provided
with NetWare 3.12), not nesesery for NetWare.
I know that Pervasive provides these, but I'm looking for other then
Pervasive engine, which is to expensive for me.

The company was originally called SoftCraft in the early 1980's. They
were then purchased by Novell, and ran that way until 1994, when they
became Btrieve Technologies Inc (BTI), then changed their name to
Pervasive Software about a year later.

The Pervasive.SQL V8 engine is the current version that is compatible
with Btrieve 6.x files. To my knowledge, no other companies have
written direct byte-level interfaces to the Btrieve data files.

$25 per workstation is too expensive for you?

I believe the developer's kit is free.

Pervasive is not 100% compatible with Btrieve.
- when I nead for example 1 additional workstation (because of licences) I'm
forcet buy Bervasive to upgrade (and pay) for all my software both NetWare
and Pervasive - abot 200 workstation. You cant just have both - previous
Btrieve and Pervasive together. I think it is to expensive if I nead only 1
additional workstation.

- in Btrieve when you have a file with fileld declared for example 10 hars
but you use onlu 3 hars and you declar serch key as 3 hars - ewerything was
OK. But in Pervasive databases sometimes crashes.

Company in which I'm working dasn't want pot so much money only for
additional licences in to dadabases which sometimes crashes, and when you
see that both Pervasive and NetWare are not fair - If some yerars ago I
bought somthing from them why now I'm forced to upgrade all instead of buy
only additional licence.
