Default BTrieve 6.x - install question - 04-21-2005 , 02:39 AM

Hi,

One of our client had a new hardware installed and they have an accounting
package called PASTEL (5.2) with a BTrieve engine.

We have reinstalled the package, the database is on the server and each
client connects through the network. It is fine, all working OK.

When I have attempted to install the software on the server and there were
no client machines connecting yet, it worked fine. After the installation
and connection of the clients I am getting an error:

Status 88: (Incompatible Mode Error)
File 7 (User File - accuser.dat)
Opcode 0 (Open)

As it is usual, the help explains very little. After digging I found this:

88: The application encountered an incompatible mode error
The MicroKernel returns this status code in one of the following
situations:

If an application opens a file in Exclusive mode, all other applications
receive this status code when they try to open the same file in any mode.
If an application opens a file in any mode other than Exclusive, all other
applications receive this status code when they try to open the same file
in Exclusive mode.
While using the MicroKernel Continuous Operation mode:
You attempted to remove a file from continuous operation, but the file is
not in Continuous Operation mode.
You attempted to remove a file from continuous operation, but a different
client placed the file into continuous operation.
You attempted to include two files in continuous operation that have the
same name but different extensions.
You attempted to include a file in continuous operation, but the file is
already in continuous operation.

It is great! I know what could the problem be, but have no idea how to fix
it!

So this is what I need help with. How can I configure this BTrieve engine
so it can open the data base on the same machine as the actual datafiles
are sitting on.

As it appears to me it opens the database in an exclusive or some special
mode that is different from the mode that the workstations are opening it .

What is also strange about this is that I have installed it using the same
CD and same settiings (choices)...

Any help will be highly appreciated.

TIA,

Tom

In a nutshell, you're configured to work as a single user. You need to get
the microkernel setup program and configure it to use the right engine for
shared files. It involves a bunch of registry entries, but the setup
program does that for you if you have it. If not, I'd have to dig up what
those registry keys are for you. Obviously it's better for you to use the
setup program instead.
