Default Btrieve 6.15 with Crystal - 02-16-2005 , 12:26 PM

With the recent announcement of Crystal Reports XI (11), I was wondering if
any other posters here have had any experience with Btrieve 6.15 beyond
Crystal's version 8.5?

I downloaded the trial version of Crystal 9.0 when it came out, and there
appeared to have been a known issue with that product and Btrieve 6.15, but
I don't think it ever got resolved. As a result I didn't even bother with
Crystal 10.0, but this newest version has one particular feature I'd be
interested in: they've removed the licensing requirements for distribution
the Report Creation API. This would make the upgrade worthwhile (I also
like the repository idea introduced in an earlier version), but it would be
a waste of time if it doesn't work with 6.15 Btrieve.

Has anyone gotten either Crystal 9.0 or 10.0 to work with Btrieve 6.15? If
so, it's likely it would work okay with 11.

Frisbee -

Please explain, why-oh-why would you still be using Btrieve 6.15 by choice?

Pervasive.SQL 7.x and 8.x are SO much better and more stable.

Because we bought the unlimited distribution license many moons ago when we
started developing our accounting application (which is still in
development, but is currently being piece-meal released).

Agreed, and we do indeed intend to update the system to the current version,
especially since the per-seat licensing has become more realistic. However,
since we have indeed started releasing the software, it would set us back a
bit to implement the changeover now. We wish to ship something that we KNOW
works, and when we (See: I) get a chance to catch our breath, we'll make the
change.
