Default 16Bit application dont start after 86 installation - 09-08-2004 , 04:06 PM

Hi,
I installed PSQL 8.5 Workgoup on a Win2kSP4-computer (AMD XP2400+, 256MBRAM).
than I install the 8.6 update.
All this without any error - all OK.
I should remark that the computer is new and the installation of win2k was also
fresh.

Now I want to configure 16-Client, but there are no items!!
SO I try to run a 16-Bit application, but: it stops at ounce without any error.

Now I try with other 16-Bit applications, that are not using btrieve: the same
strange stop.

(all the apps I tried are running without any problem on other win2k-SP4
computers running psql 2000i or winXP with psql 8.1)

Now I try deinstall PSQL8.6. This was done with the finisching message:
Deinstallation sucessfull.

After restart of windows I tried to install PSQL 8.1, but the installation stops
with the error: there is PSQL 8.6 installes on this computer! But under software
in the controlcenter was no more PSQL 8.x. So I look at c:\pvsw, and must see,
that indead many pvsw-trash remained.

(I tried also to run 16Bit apps, but they behave strang as before).

So I erased that PVSW by hand and retry to install 8.1: same error.

So I looked in the registry and erased HKLM/software/pervasive by hand.

Now 8.1 installation excutes OK.

But the 16-Bit clint-configuration was again empty and 16 bit apps stops at ounce.

Now I deinstalled 8.1, and this was without problm: after restart all
pvsw-related stuff was deleted.

And now I tried to install PSQL 2000i. But this fails at once because the
setup.exe from psql2000i appear to be a 16bit app, and these apps no longer run
on this computer.

QUESTION: may the installation of PSQL 8.6 destroy the 16 subsystem?

(after all I reinstalled the SP4 of win2k without success; I checked alle nt*.*
files in winnt/system32 with FC against a good installation and there are no
differences.)

I guess, that PSQL 8.6 hat damaged something in the registry...(the
deinstallation is a desaster.)

Any hint?

Reagrds from Jena
