why mutex_set_align and not set_mutex_align?
the latter appears to be more consistent with the other setters/getters.

We used to use set_category_item in the Berkeley DB API, but as the
number of methods have increased, we've been trying to use
category_set_item so the methods appropriate for a particular category
sort together.
