Default BDB Developer Tutorial - 05-04-2006 , 06:36 PM

BDB Developer Tutorial - Full-Day Class - May 30th at USENIX '06
Boston Marriott Copley Place, Boston, Massachusetts

Margo Seltzer, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer for Sleepycat
Software, now an Architect with Oracle, will be teaching a full-day
tutorial that is intended for application architects and developers who
are designing high performance data storage solutions for real world
applications. Software development and program managers who are
interested in understanding the services provided by Berkeley DB will
also benefit from this tutorial. Engineers familiar with Berkeley DB,
as well as those who have not yet used this product, will come away
from this tutorial with useful, practical information, sample code and
Berkeley DB performance tuning tips.

This tutorial will cover Berkeley DB's underlying concepts, API and
implementation recommendations. Additionally, a significant portion of
the tutorial will focus on performance tuning options and usage
scenarios. Specific code examples in C will be reviewed, illustrating
the key API calls and how to use them. The tutorial will include
advanced Berkeley DB topics, such as replication, and will also briefly
describe Berkeley DB XML and Berkeley DB Java Edition.

This is a great opportunity to learn Berkeley DB from the inside out,
from one of the Sleepycat co-founders and developers of the product. If
you're curious about Berkeley DB, a current Berkeley DB application
developer or an expert in the product, here's a unique opportunity to
expand your knowledge and skills. As Herchel Smith Professor of
Computer Science at Harvard University, Dr. Margo Seltzer is globally
recognized as an expert in operating, database and transactional
storage systems. She holds an AB degree in Applied Mathematics from
Harvard/Radcliffe College and a PhD in Computer Science from the
University of California at Berkeley.

Hi Dave,

Are there any plans to do this sort of thing in the UK, or make webcasts
available?
It'd be good to get an idea of "best practice" for using Berkley DB XML (tho
this may be covered in the fairly comprehensive intro doc which I'm wading
through at the minute).

Many thanks
