Default ADABAS - phonetic search in german - 09-19-2003 , 12:07 PM

Hi everybody,
in our company we are using ADABAS (on a z/OS-platform). For a new project I
want to use the feature 'phonetic search' which is - as I think - provided
with ADABAS. We are located in Germany, so we need german phonetic search.
Who of you has experience in this? Any comment is welcome.
TIA
Thomas Kregeloh

Yes, phonetic descriptors (= indices) are an integral feature of ADABAS, and
are
based on german phonetization rules by default anyway.

Is there a specific question / concern you have in mind.

Regards

Wolfgang

Well, of course I am sure that everything will work as I want it to....
;-)
We have to search for names that we receive in a list, trying to find them
in a database that we provide. It's the first time that I work with phonetic
search, so I want to know if there are specific items to think of.
TIA

Not really much to think of, it's easy stuff, using ADACMP or AOS
define the phonetic descriptor as

PHONDE='phonetic_descriptor_shortname(parent_field _shortname)'

then use ist like any other descriptor from NATURAL or whatever
programming language you use.

The phonetic descriptor will be built from the first 20 alpha characters
(excludes special characters, blanks etc.).

This way you will find, with the same search value, all matching "phonetics"
like:
Mayer, Maier, Meyer, Meier, ...

Hope this helps, let me know if you need more information

Regards

Wolfgang
