I did a normal install of 8i on a solaris 8 x_86.
I did the full enterprise install.

When I try to start up the oem, it says that the server,<hostname>
is not available..???

I can't find a simple, step by step document on how to configure and start
the enterprise manager.

This is just a simple, all on the same host, install.
