Default Installing Reporting Services 2000 separate from the web server? (i.e. no IIS / ASP.net installed) - 07-24-2007 , 11:52 AM

Hello,

I'm trying to find out if I can configure SSRS 2000 to function with a
separate web server? When I installed SSRS 2000 it ran a system check and
notified me that I didn't have IIS, ASP.net or Visual Studio .NET 2003
installed, but it let me continue anyway.

I'd like to know if it is going to be difficult at all trying to configure
this to have SQL Server / SSRS on one machine, the web server on another and
VS.NET 2003 on a third. I'm having difficulty finding that info via google,
so any direction would be great.

Thanks!
Rick

SSRS itself is an ASP.NET application, so you need IIS (web server) to run
it. However, the meta database for SSRS can be on different computer (with
SQL Server2000 installed), and accessible by the user account running the RS
on web server.

So, you could:

Computer1: IIS server + RS
Computer2: SQL Server

Actually, this is recommended setup. There is one catch: you need two SQL
Server licenses for thsi setup: one for RS on the IIS server and one for SQL
Server. For a small office, that extra license could be considerable cost,
though.

As for report designer, as VS2003 add-in, you can install in on any
computer, likely, the computer(s) used by the report developer(s).
