Default Reports to compare tables in microsoft access 2002 - 07-29-2004 , 11:01 AM

Hi,

I am not too familiar with microsoft access. What I need to do is
create reports that compare the data between 2 databases. The 2
database's schema's are identical and they contain the same tables.
However, the data in the 2 databases might be different (one is more
up to date than the other).

The reports should tell me
- new records in database "new" compared to database "old"
- deleted reocrds in database "new" compared to database "old"
- updated records in database "new" compared to database "old"
for each table.

There are about 15 tables, and I don't want to have 3 reports done per
table. That would be way too many reports I need to maintain and
such. I would prefer to only have 3 reports where each of them would
do the comparison for all 15 tables.

Is this possible in MSAccess? If so, how would I go about doing it.
If not, is there another possible solution I can use?

Also, I'm not even sure how to compare 2 different tables. Could
someone maybe help me out with that too.

Thanks.

There are a few utilities that will do this kind of thing, though I'm
not sure about data compare. I think the entire company is devoted to
little access apps like this. If I do recall the name i'll post it, but
it keeps showing up in one of those useless magazines like .net week,
eweek, etc.

Bung,

First thing you would have to do is link the tables from one db to the
other. Do you know about the Find Unmatched Query Wizard? If not go to
queries and click the new button, and select Find Unmatched Query
Wizard and it will take you through the steps. You will have to play
with it to get what you want, but I think this will get you started.

Good luck,

Wes

What would you like to know about? Have you tried to use the Find
Unmatched Query Wizard? I am no expert, but I can try to help as much
as possible.
