Default Number of fields in a query - 03-01-2005 , 01:38 PM

Hi, I'm using access 97 on windows 98.

I have table with 162 fields in it. I need to withdraw this information
in a (totals) query with 164 fields (162 "avg" fields and 2 "count"
fields). When I click from the design to datasheet views, access returns
an error message that says "too many fields defined" and an offer for
help. Clicking on help displays this message: "You tried to perform an
operation that involves more than 255 fields. Reduce the number of
fields, and then try the operation again." I manually counted the fields
in the query and the query works up to a maximum of 134 fields; at 135
fields or more, access returns displays the "too many fields" message. I
need to present all this data in single report. Anybody know why access
fails at 135 fields? Any ideas on how to solve my problem?

Many thanks,

PLH
