Default Help - 03-04-2005 , 01:35 PM

I'm running Access 97 on Windows 98. I need to make large tables and
queries with approaching but not exceeding 225 fields (columns). Access
is giving me a "too many fields" message when I try to save the table or
query although there are fewer than 255 fields. Sometimes it works and
sometimes it doesn't. For example, I was able to create one table with
169 columns, but when I tried to create a similar table with 169
(different) columns, I got the "too many fields" response. Does anyone
know what's going on here? Is the program failing?

Help is sorely needed and surely appreciated.

Thanks,

Patrick Houser

This is just a guess. I don't have a copy of '97.

In creating the columns are you using calculations with other fields?
If you are doing a make table and You are filling field A of the new
table with the sum of 3 fields from another table, my feeling is that
the parser would count that column as using 4 fields.

If you have columns of this nature, try putting a few of them in a
seperate query and use that one in the main query. That way each
complex column would count as only one.

Good Luck
