Default Exploding database - 11-23-2004 , 01:54 PM

In Access XP I have a learning database for Spanisch, with only about 2,000
words (also only text, no pictures). However, the database is 54 MB. I would
expect some 100's of kB for only text.
I have also a genealogical database that contains 1,500 persons. Since I
added 15 photo-pictures, it growed up to 317 MB. Changing the program by
linking to the pictures instead of importing them, did not improve the
result.

What can I do to bring the database back to normal proportions?

Thanks,

Leo Kroon

With the database opened, go to Extra / Databasehulpprogramma's / Database
comprimeren en herstellen

You can also set this function automatically at closing the database:

Extra / Opties / tab "Algemeen" / check "Comprimeren bij sluiten"

Greets,

Dodo

Access does not actually delete anything until you tell it to. So you
need to go to Tools/Database Utilities/Compact and Repair.
This will clean out the accumulated garbage.

Good Luck.
